Abstract Realizing the 'Healthy life', it is very important for the elderly to establish living environment for improving tendencies to depression. So this study proposes a color scheme for the work center of an old peoples' home. The aim is to reduce inhabitants' depressive tendencies through an analysis of their physical and psychological responses. The subjects were divided into two groups: the depressive and non-depressive groups, according to their KGDS response rates. Psychological reactions were evaluated using a pre-written adjective vocabulary with SD questionnaire. Their physiological responses were measured using Neuro Harmony, and a researcher familiar with the equipment observed the entire process. For the kitchen space, representative color R for among the longer wavelengths and representative color PB from among the shorter wavelengths were selected. Tone combinations, Complementary combination, and Analogous combinations were used as the method. The color range was chosen to be encompassed within the Pale tones for the wall and Vivid tones for the work center. Subject who are belonged to Non-depressive group showed that they preferred PB-Y and R-tone color combination through the psychological response, and PB-tone and R-tone color combination through the physiological response. Subject who are belonged to Depressive group showed that they preferred PB-Y and R-YR color combination through the psychological response, and PB-tone and R-YR color combination through the physiological response.
