Abstract According to the change of social structure and the refine of educational form and curriculum due to the reduction in the number of students, the school is no longer a space for acquiring knowledge but an environment for helping the development of the children. As a result, school facilities in major countries of the world are being transformed due to changes in perception as a space for performing important functions for personality development. The purpose of this study is to investigate the function and role of emotional space by analyzing characteristics of biophilic interior design of educational spaces in Europe. Therefore, the paper suggests the direction of emotional space design that can act as a positive factor in the development of child's personality. In this study, the characteristics of biophillic interior design based on the theoretical review and precedents of biophilic design environment that positively affects child development will be discussed. Therefore, the research investigates the external connectivity, the program, and the spatial composition of the educational space and extracts the environmental elements and biophilic design elements that help the psychological development of children and adolescents and uses them for the design analysis of the European school space. Finally, we propose the direction of the emotional space design of the educational space according to the change of the educational environment and suggest the interior space which provides various psychological experiences to the child.
