Abstract The spatial elements that provide a good prospect have been extensively studied in research on visual preference. Some researchers mention that for interior spaces, fenestration will help optimize visual openness to indoor or outdoor. The aim of this paper is to develop a parametric design model that can be optimized for the prospect through windows. We describe a method of measuring the 3D visibility with isovist ray to quantify the prospect ratio in the space. Parametric modeling is developed to create design alternatives of window with variables of size(WWR-Wall to Window Ratio), location, and shape(aspect ratio) and automatically measure 3D visibility. To verify the proposed parametric model, input the parameter values to create the window design, and observe how the prospect changes according to the size, location, and shape of various windows based on the numerical analysis data of the 3D visibility. With the parametric design technology for measuring visual preference, a great potential exists for presenting various alternatives of residential spaces in the early stages of design.
