Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine how the lighting environment of the boutique hotel lobby space expresses the design concept of the hotel while providing a new experience for the user. This study researched the lobby space of the boutique hotel in Seoul, which was built within 4 years, especially the public space. The general lighting method used in the general indoor space is classified into the light distribution type and the installation method of the lighting fixture. The light form expressed in space is classified into light that illuminates space, light that illuminates shape, moving light, and meaning light. In order to establish the details of the light form, common or similar concepts were summed up based on the existing previous studies. An analysis of the three case study sites confirmed that though each showed numerical similarity in lighting arrangement, each also differed in the way light was represented by their arrangement according to the concept of the sites. Another determining factor in this diversity was found in whether single lighting was expressed in a simultaneous format or not. Accordingly, in order to express the identity of the space through the provision of a new design experience, the light form of the space must be accompanied by various expressions. Therefore, it is considered that a non-uniform combination of the light distribution type and the installation method, which constitutes the lighting method, is more important than the number of lighting methods. In addition, it is important that the form of light form a close relationship with the design elements used to express the concept of space. When these factors can simultaneously express the effects of various lights in the space, it can provide users with a new perceptual experience and various light experiences.
