Abstract |
With the development of society and the improvement of low fertility rate and average life expectancy, the problem of population aging has aroused people’s attention and become the focus of social attention.
Consequently, the concept of ‘Affordance’ is introduced into the design field, giving deep consideration to the relationship between the person and the environment. The sharp increase of people with disabilities of daily behavior ability, out of the convenience of disabled people with physical inconvenience in social life, ‘Affordance Design’ gradually becomes a hot Design concept centering on public buildings. Nowadays, the principle of Universal Design has been stipulated as a detailed standard in law, and has been universally applied in daily life.
Therefore, based on the Universal Design principles and combined with the characteristics of Affordance Design, this study attempts to derive the availability characteristics more applicable than the Universal Design principles.
Public library is the most typical public building. Public library is open to all members of the society and is one of the centers of social and cultural life. This study selected the public reading rooms of four Seoul public libraries within the area of 2000-3000㎡ and carried out renovation projects from 2015 to 2017 as the survey object space, which was divided into two parts: spatial design characteristics and user behavior characteristics for analysis and sorting. |
