Abstract |
Due to various disasters and the increasing number of the elderly, elderly care facilities should be planned that take into account disaster safety aspects. Especially, Nursing homes, where most residents have difficulty evacuating, can be a serious damaged during a disaster. The purpose of this study was to derive facility planning elements and concepts related to disaster safety through analysis of advance research including 21 guidelines issued by government office and to suggest the planning direction of nursing homes in South Korea. The results are as follows; 1) Nursing homes should be in a safe location considering accessibility, community support, residents and durability.
2) The structure and finishing materials to prevent the spread of fire are secured fire resistance using fire partition and smoke compartment planning for space separation. 3) The sleeping room, machine room, and storage of emergency goods should be placed in areas with low risk of disaster. Finally, consideration of the evacuation characteristics of residents, sleeping room should be planned around the staff space for easy management, and arrange the sleeping room of the bedridden patient to be adjacent to the entrance or evacuation space. |
