Abstract The laws and regulations on building and interior architecture should successfully provide the means of egress, in particular, to enable people to quickly evacuate in the fire and crisis situations, along with the standards of facilities and interior finishing materials in building that respond most immediately in case of fire. This study researched, through literature and information, the traffic units, which are the regulations related to evacuation, and the installation of entrance and stairs in the interior architecture of the multi-use facilities in France. In addition, the standards of fire extinguishing system such as fire alarm facility and smoke detector installation were considered according to the classification of finishing materials in architecture and the changed conditions and risk of finishing materials in case of fire. Accordingly, the classification and regulations of multi-use facilities were studied based on the facility use and occupant load in architecture. Therefore, the regulations of France are divided the strict facility regulations of the elderly, disabled, and children’s facilities and the finishing materials of interior architecture in multi-use facilities into six stages of material ranges based on and combustibility and flammability. In the case of general housing, smoke detectors are required to be installed, and the installation standards of smoke detectors have been operated as being defined by multi-use facility. Therefore, in this study, the regulations and design plans to be considered in the fire and emergency evacuation situation were studied, focusing on the provisions related to evacuation influencing the design stage of architects in the means of egress of the multi-use facilities in France.
