Abstract The purpose of this study is to suggest the developmental direction in space on a master bedroom after grasping the characteristics in the living behaviors and the household items of a master bedroom targeting dual-income families. For this, a survey was conducted targeting 30 households whose children correspond to infancy, kids, elementary-school period and middle & high-school period. A research method was used questionnaire & interview, photo shooting, and a field-survey method of recording household items. The survey results are as follows. First, the major living behaviors in a master bedroom were shown to be sleeping, child rearing, relaxation & leisure, dressing & makeup, and work activity. Second, the furniture that was arranged much was in order of bed, storage closet and wardrobe. A family with kids appeared to be much in a single bed for a family sleep. The higher age was indicated to lead to being more in a conjugal sleep and in storage space for getting ready to go to work. Third, the household items showed the most complicated storage form in wardrobe, dressing table and storage closet. Finally, problems are analyzed in the living-based aspect and the household-item aspect of the space for developing the space of a master bedroom. And then we proposed the process improving in a desirable direction. The directions was proposed in terms of the major living behaviors, the furniture Layout and the household-items.
