Abstract |
The elderly nursing homes are vulnerable to evacuation in emergency situations such as fires. In elderly nursing homes, it is impossible for many elderly people to evacuate voluntarily without the help of staff. Therefore, it is very important to guide employees’ behaviors when evacuating. The micro simulation models are an alternative to represent the dynamics of pedestrians and their interactions between themselves and the environment. Agent-based simulation models have been used successfully to represent emergency evacuation. The purpose of this study is to develop an agent-based simulation model for evacuation that reflects the characteristics and behavior of occupants in elderly nursing homes. In this study, an agent-based evacuation simulation model was developed using AnyLogic software. The proposed simulation model was implemented as the behavioral logic of evacuating with the help of staff, considering the elderly who cannot evacuate themselves due to the characteristics of evacuation in elderly nursing homes. The agent-based evacuation simulation model proposed in this research reflects the specific role and behavior of the agent in the system, so it differs from the existing model in the process of interaction between occupants and group formation. This model can evaluate evacuation safety, and it is possible to propose an efficient evacuation behavior guideline by comparing and analyzing the conditions of various evacuation scenarios as a simulation model. |
