Abstract As energy costs increase due to global warming and rising energy material prices, there is a risk that the health and quality of life of the energy vulnerable households may deteriorate. Accordingly, there is a need to understand the physical environment of the energy-vulnerable households and to improve the living environment. The purpose of this study is to identify research trends by analyzing published journal articles in Korea related to the fuel poverty households. Among the papers published until January 2022, a total of 33 articles were analyzed which are highly related to energy poverty derived from five keywords: energy poverty, energy poor, energy welfare, heating and cooling costs, and indoor thermal environment. The collected data were analyzed by dividing it into four categories: research area, research purpose, research method, and research subject. Results show that previous studies were mainly concentrated in the field of policy studies, and the majority of studies aimed at suggesting directions for improving energy welfare policies. In terms of research methods, there were several quantitative studies using secondary data and surveys. Research has been actively conducted on the vulnerable households, but there were lack of empirical studies for housing energy efficiency applications. In conclusion, it will be necessary to conduct resident-centered evidence-based studies to solve the energy poverty issues in the future.
