Abstract |
As the housing poverty problem of young people became a social problem, the Seoul Metropolitan Government has tried to supply housings for youth of the 20s and 30s in the station areas, but, it experiences difficulties with the supply due to the negative perception of the residents who view youth housings as an abomination facility. The aim of this study is to identify ways supporting the supply of youth housings by addressing the negative perception problem in terms of the architectural design aspect. Firstly, the laws, guidelines, and checklists of ‘the Seoul 2030 Youth Housings’ were compared with those of the US ‘Affordable Housing’, and the architectural characteristics of youth housings near the stations in Seoul were identified. Further, the needs for the design of youth housings were investigated through a questionnaire survey. The results show that the ‘Seoul Station Area Youth Housing’ guideline has insufficient contents of building design and planning, but people put much value on the design aspect of housings, not satisfied with the current single-mass building design. |
