Abstract |
Recently, the use of air purifier has drastically increased due to increased hazardous effects of fine dust on the human health. Proper care and attention are essential in preserving the efficiency and reliability of an air purifier. It is generally known that the capacity of air purifier reduces as the filter is loaded with dust, thus the need for periodic replacement of the filter. In the present study, an air purifier equipped with the HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air filter) filter was loaded with several types of test dust and oil mist, and the capacity of air purifier was measured while varying the amount of pollutant deposited on the filter. This was done to quantitatively analyze the effect of the amount of the dust and oil mist deposition. Generally, the reduction of air purifier capacity due to the pollutant deposition results from two causes, one is the reduction of filtration efficiency and the other is the decrease in air flow rate due to augmented flow resistance of filter. In the present work, the latter has been found to be the main cause of the reduction of air purifier capacity due to the pollutant deposition. |
