Abstract This study is the second series on the evaluation of the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete structure by means of the experiments using earthquake simulator. All of the details about the experiments were presented in the previeous journal of the AIK, vol 7, num. 3, june, 1991. The experiments included earthquake simulation tests and free vibration tests. The earthquake simulation tests were classified into three categories. The first series of tests were conducted to generate the serviceablity limit response and to comfirm the operation of eathquake simulation facilities. The second series of test were designed to simulate the damageability limit state of the test structure response in order to introduce moderate structural damage in the form of minor yielding in some of the critical regions in the moment resisting frame. In the last series of test, the structure was subjected to severe inqut motion with the objeditve of reaching the collapse limit state of the structure, To evaluate the variation of the mechanical characteristics of the test structure with the degree of damage, free vibration test were carried out at the end of each earthquake simulation test. Continuous records of structural response measured by various sensors for each test, such as base motion, displacement, reinforcement strain and local deformation were obtained by electronic data acquisition system and processed to the data by personal computer, Interpretations of the local responses and comparisons between the results of the observed behavior and the code-related in the view of structural safety are presented in detail.
