Inflexeible Pattern of Apartment Unit Plan |
Abstract |
During the last three decades, apartment housing has gained the public preference and dramatically increased in the number. Experiences thus have accumulated, and precedents have rich suggestions for the future. Given that few studies have pinpointed these lessons, this study attempts a systematic look at the trends and patterns of the past apartment designs. This study utilizes a qualitative, chronological analysis of almost all design samples actually built in Seoul and 5 metropolitan new towns between 1962 and 1990. The study goal is to identify whether there are historical consistencies and patterns in the designs. An important study finding is that most of the builders and designers in both design patterns are clearly identified that have adopted consistently (temporal) and ubiquitously (geographical). Some considerations are made and presented regarding this unchanged design patterns, such as the most parsimonious design in economic terms. |
