A Study on the Mechanical Characteristics of New Composite Columns |
| Abstract |
This paper deals with the elastic stiffness and ultimate bending strength of new composite columns. Four precast concrete panels are combined with square steel tubes by headed studs. These studs have two functions: one is to transmit the shear stress of concrete panels to steel tubes, and the other is to prevent the spilt off action of precast concrete panels. Holes are made in the concrete panels to install panels around the steel tubes on which studs are welded. These holes are filled with high-strengthmortar.The purpose of composite columns is as follows:(1)To enlarge the stiffness and strength of steel columns by combining with them the concrete panels. These panels are also useful as a fire resistance material of steel tubes.(2)To improve the quality and productivity of the structural system by eliminating the bar arrangement works and the panel works at the construction site. |
