Title Space Usage Patterns of Middle-Sized Apartment Dwellers in the City of Seoul

Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine the space usage patterns of apartment-dwellers in the city of Seoul. Documentary research and questionnaire survery methods are used in this study. Questionnaires are administered by interviewing 304 households from three residential areas in Seoul by the size of floor space, 31-35 and 44-48 pyong.This study shows that the anbang is the place where couples sleep while sometimes it becomes the place where family members get together and stay relaxed. The living room is the place for various activities including the role of anbang in traditional Korean-style houses where family gather and spend most of their time together. The dining-kitchen is used mainly for dining space, but occasionally utilized for family interaction and guest reception.
