Crime Survey and Relation to Environment Factors in High-rise Apartment Sites |
Abstract |
This study represents a first attempt of field research to acquire first-hand data of residents' experience in crime in high-rise, large-scale apartment residental areas in Seoul. Seven high-rise sites were selected in and near the city, and a total of 398 households were surveyed about their crime experience. Eight different types of crime were included in the investigation, and over 100 variables regarding physical design factors, management, and sociodemographic characteristics were analyzed in terms of the relationships to residents' crime experience. Major findings of this study include the statistical figures of crime not reported but actually occurring in large apartment sites, the statistical evidence confirming that crime occurs to different degrees in different design conditions and the results of the analysis that identify significant design and management variables related to crime in high-rise housing sites. |
