Abstract This study is to evaluate the characteristics and influence by transmission of emitted noise from plumbing system in apartment house, and present the basic data useful in establishing design criteria for noise reduction. Field measurement of noise level from sanitary apparatuses was carried out in recently constructed 6 apartment buildings.As the result of this study, the characteristics ofgenerated and transmitted noise from each sanitary apparatuses were obtained. The amount of drainage, the pressure of supply water, and the vent & drainage piping system have influence on the emitted noise levels from the plumbing equipment as well. Noise levels in bedrooms and livingrooms under drainage of water closet in each and upper bathroom were higher than that of ISO recommendation and the acceptable levels of Architectural Institute of Japan respectively.
