Development & Evaluation of Practical Application of Floor Heating System using Latent Heat Storage |
Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to investigate the practical application of a phase change material(;PCM-CaCl2. 6H2O,CCH) for hydronic radiant floor heating system. In order of it, 4 identical test cells(1.8mW x 1.8mW x 1.8mH in size) were built and installed with specially designed aluminium container for Ondol-Panels(1.6cmT x 9cmW x 80cmH in size)holding 1.25kg of CCH.The characteristics of heat storage and emission of the PCM panel, the distribution of indoor air temperature in a floor heating space with PCM panels for the heating system were analyzed by experiment. In addition, the SIMPLE(Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equation) method was used to analyze two dimensional incompressible turbulent natural convection in a rectangular enclosure. It was found that PCM panels could reduce the indoor air temperature fluctuations and maintain the phase changing temperature for considerably long duration, 2-3 times longer in heating hour over no-CCH one. When the elapsed time was 6 hours, the everage temerature difference between PCM panel and Ondol panel was 7.7 C.Some deviation between numerical results and experimental ones resulted from a simplification of actual boundary conditions in theoretical application. In reality the boundary conditions including air infiltration were so complicated, however, the deviation would be negligible. A large turbulent flow due to natural convection was found in both right and left region of the indoor, and upward flows in the central region of the indoor also occurred. |
