A Study on the Building Performance-conscious Design Method using Knowledge-based System |
| Abstract |
The application of knowledge-based technology to architectural design might be achieved through new design concept and design method. A new design concept, performance-conscious design, is proposed and its process model is presented. The knowledge-based performance-conscious building design is a new approach to CAAD. As a partial implementation of the theoretical design process model, a prototype knowledge-based system for the schematic-conceptual design phase of office buildings is developed. The design knowledge and strategies of environmental performance-conscious building design are stored in the knowledge base of the system, and the system guides designers by providing intelligent recommendations, evaluations, and suggestions using its design knowledge during the early phase of design process. |
