Abstract Computers are used in the various fields of architecture. It is true, however, that computers are hardly used in the process of functional analysis between architectural spaces because of the computational characteristics of computers, and the implicit characteristics of architectural spaces. It has been attempted by several researchers to apply a pure computational theory alone to the analysis of functions between spaces, but they could not produce a desirable result because they did not consider characteristics of architectural spaces themselves. To analyze them successfully, therefore, the analysis of characteristics of architectural spaces, and the analysis of an architect's implicit synthesis of spaces must precede. To analyze functions between spaces successfully using a computable method, the followings are studied in this paper:1) Find the elements which affects the functional grouping of architectural spaces.2) Analyze and systemize the relationship between architectural spaces.3) Find an abstraction method of the relationship between spaces using a graph because a building is transformed from architects' abstract concept to a concrete object, and the relation between spaces are embedded implicitly in a building.4) Develop an analysis method which can decompose a spatial graph based on graphic theory and spatial characteristics, so that the functional characteristics between architectural spaces can be analyzed from the decomposed graphs.
