Simulation of Artificial Ground Accelerations to be used for Seismic Response Analysis of Building Structures |
Abstract |
This paper describes input ground accelerations to be used for seismic response analysis of building structures. In earthquake-resistant design of building structures, the input ground accelerations have considerable effect on dynamic characteristics of structures. Hence, it is tremendously important to properly select input ground accelerations for seismic response analysis. In this paper, the artificial ground accelerations are generated according to the strong ground accelerations recorded during past earthquakes. Eight artificial ground accelerations which match to the target velocity spectra with two and five percent of critical viscous damping, respectively, were simulated. Each artificial acceleration has a identical phase angles to the original recorded ground acceleration, and has constant velocity response spectra in the range of period from 0.5 to 5.0 seconds. |
