Abstract This study serves as a starting point for the development of an integrated system in the structural design domain. Once users give the building shape and design constraints, the resulting system executes the structural design process from structural planning to preliminary proportioning of members, analysis, and member design without additional user-interface as far as possible. Recently, preliminary problem analysis and software design have been considered to be essential in the development of such a large software. This paper explores the issues that arise in the integration throughout the structural design process and offers solutions for them. As the result, this paper provides a prototype of an integrated system for structural design.
