Abstract An evaluation of acoustic performance in the opera house at SEOUL ART CENTER is presented in this paper. The study proposes feasible acoustic design schemes by examining plans and measuring acoustical performance of the building at the site under construction. The sound distribution, the sound pressure level and the influence of reflective surface which affect direct sounds and early reflected sounds are examined through sound ray diagram. The sound pressure level and the reverberation time at each seat are measured and the reflective surfaces responsible for such acoustical defects as echoes, sound foci, dead spots, and room flutter are evaluated at the intermediate construction stage. This pre-evaluation may help the designer find out and correct acoustical defects in construction, and the results can be used as fundamental data for acoustical design afterward.
