Abstract Since recently the number of students has been greatly increased and the cities have been extended, the location of campus to suburban areas has been generalized, exposing a difficulty of extension of facilities and school lots. Therefore this study examines the changes of campus location on the subje-ct of 65 universities in 1990 and the results are as follows:The changes of location pattern of compus are shown when a requirement of extension of facilities is not accepted by the conditions of compus such as a condition of surrounding areas, scale of campus and an inner attribute of university, but its type has been decided between the above factors and growth and resettlement possibilities which are sources to control campus.Considering the period of changes, the transfer in the city before 1970 and after that, the transfer and the establishment of the second campus in the outside of the city were prevalent, according to the character of university, national universities preferred the transfer (simple transfer and integration by transfer) and private universities preferred the establishment of the second campus and according to the scale of city, the cities more than big cities showed mainly the establishment of the second campus and small and medium cities preferred the transfer, and especially since the late 1970s the appearance of suburban-type campus has been remarkable.
