A study on the Analysis and Planning Method of Public Space in Multi-Family Housing in terms of the Space Syntax Model |
| Abstract |
The objectives of this study are (1) to analyze public spaces in highrise multi-family housing estate in terms of the Space Syntax Model ; (2) to survey the actual usage of these public spaces ; and (3) to test the validity of the methodologies in the Space Syntax Model.As the results, the followings are suggested.1. Since the Space Syntax Model could successfully predict the actual publc space usage, planners may take advatage of the model in planning of housing estates.2. A main public space(e.g., park) should be located at the the center of the estate and have low RRA and high Control Value.3. Small semi public spaces(e.g.,playground)should be evenly distributed throughtout the estate, and have hige Control Value. They also should be connected to the main public space so that they get higher intelligibility.4. Since there found a high correlationship between Control Value of the public spaces and their actual usage, it is important to locate the public spaces where there can be easily connected to the other spaces. |
