Title |
An Analytical Study on Categorization of Cognitive Cues in Highrise Apartments |
Abstract |
This research aims to propose the exterior design approach for breaking from the simplicty and uniformity in highrise apartments which was built in Seoul metropolitan area since 1961.To achieve this purpose, the appearances of highrise apartments were analytically investigated as cityscape from the viewpoint of perception cognition associational theory. To know how architects and users conceptulize, memorize and evaluate the visual characteristics of highrise apartments, human psychological responses were studied. The cognitive responses were investigated in the context of educating users' information as a part of P.O.E.The outcomes from this study are as follows:Firstly, the characteristics of cognitive images on highrise apartments are classified into 'the collective-figures of housing area', 'the contour-figures of building', and 'the exterior-facades of dwelling unit' according to the attributes.Secondly, the responses of architects and user groups' cognitive characteristics are different: architects recognize 'the collective-figures of housing area' as more significant, but users 'the contour-figures of building'. This discrepancy is caused by their different interests on highrise apartments. |
