Title Development of Steel System Buildings in Low-rise Non-Residential Applications

Abstract Currently, the ratio of low-rise building to the total domestic construction is 99 percent in terms of construction area. It is therefore important to promote the development of system buildings in this low-rise building area. In this study 51 low-rise commercial buildings in Pusan city were investigated with respect to their floor area, number of stories, usage, etc. These were classified into the appropriate structural systems using statistical analysis, such as SPSS. It was found that when the square section is used for the structural mamber, total amount of steel is 7.1% less than that required by the case of the H-beam structure. The expansion of steel structures was also examined in order to build a data-base for the planning of the various steel structures.
