Abstract There was a moment of crisis in Renaissance Architecture during the late fifteenth century. This can be characterized as a coexistence of the two contradictory styles: medieval tradition of decoration and the new movement of the Humanist Architecture. The solution of this crisis seemed to lie in a reconciliatory cooperation of the two styles, and Bramante showed a good example of the reconciliation. He succeeded in combining the medieval tradition of decoration with the classical rules. By this, Bramante is said to have completed Renaissance Classicism and, at the same time, to have opened the Mannerism. This study is to define Bramante's contribution to the formation of the sixteenth century architecture on the focus of his use of orders, especially his acceptance of the medieval decorative tradition in regard to the use of orders.
