An Experimental Research on Building Recognition |
| Abstract |
This research is concerned with the meaning in the architectural objects and the ways this meaning is transmitted and recognised by people. As a direct consequence, the imageability becomes an important issue as well.An experiment is conducted to study the visual cues, various characteristics of people and the ways of communication of the meaning. As the results of the experiment, several suggestions are presented as follows. First, it is assumed that the increasing levels of detail would increase the recognition of building types. Second, to comprehend the imageability, it is needed to consider the various characteristic backgrounds of people. Third, it is desirable to use the form of nonverbal communication as the ways of transmitting the meaning of architectural objects. |
