Title Analogical Interpretation of Korean Traditional Architecture by the rhythm of Korean Traditional Music

Abstract Historical study of architecture must include the interpretations of the past buildings. This study is an interpretation of upper-class houses in the middle-Chosun Dynasty. In the process of this, Korean traditional music is adopted in order to get suitable interpretation system as similar aesthetic sence of that period. In a word the forms of the house(that had two characters:Confucian chracter and a landed proprietor's character)are interpretated by analogy with the rhythm patterns of traditional music.This study comes to a conclustion that the house show the double application of art principle: the whole is composed of unification, the part is composed of subdivisiton:Court music style-duple time rhythm appears to symmetrical asymmetry, Folk music style-triple time rhythm appears to asymmetrical symmetry.
