A Preliminary Study on the PC-based Knowledge base for Effective Decision-Making in Building Construction Management |
| Abstract |
As the concept of project management grows for the controls of building projects, there has been a fundamental need for structuring the required information in an integrated fashion. This paper describes the major aspects of information integration for the project management purpose. Recognizing the time-based integration as one of the most important aspects, it attempts to investigate necessary issues in developing a valid information model. Based on the suggested resolutions it also proposes a conceptual model. The modular hierarchical structure of the project description and analysis, and the knowledge organization based on abstraction mechanisms appear to be fundamental tools in developing such an information aid. The implementation study, which was performed to test the operational efficacy of the model, also confirms that the model is able to operate as it is designed by utilizing existing technical tools. |
