A Study on the Pyung-Sa-Ryang(Four Cross Beamed Structure) of the Central Korea For most Korean housing units, it is typical to have three beamed or five beamed structure. However, in central Korea, we can find housing units with four cross beamed structure. In terms of external appearance, you cannot differentiate the four cross beamed structure from ordinary housing units, except one major distinctive difference in rafter, that is, missing collar beam for the four cross beamed structure. Horizontal rafter is therefore placed between two purlins, and, only between purlin and pole plate, slanted rafter is placed. This study investigates into formative factors that gave birth to the four cross beamed structure, reasons why the slope of slanted rafter beacame gentle rather than steep, and how internal space was transformed in the four cross beamed structure. |
