Abstract In this study, the concept of ego boundaries as is expounded in psychoanalysis and Gestalt psychology is expanded and applied to architectural space by way of comparison with the related concepts in psychopathology, anthropology, environmental psychology, cultural studies etc.In summary, this study is an attempt to verify the correspondence between the characteristics of our mental space and those of architectural space in the light of the concept of ego boundaries, which originally has to do with the mental space, to the description of anthropocentric life space. The obserbation that our mental space corresponds with the architectural spaces which we create prompts the hypothesis that our mental situations have much to do in determining the characteristics of our architectural spaces. Observation of architectural space in this manner can make it possible to decipher the mental characteristics and the world view of those who created it.What characterizes this study is application of the ego boundaries concept so as to shed light on the relationship between architectural space and person. Person is at the same time a physical and a mental being;in the living person, body and mind cannot be separated from each other. The intertwining of these two aspects can be also found in the relationship between person and the real space. Person's spatiality is not limited to the body either. The mental aspects of person's spatiality is manifest not only in the person's mental situations but also in the person's relationship with architectural space.
