Abstract The purpose of this experimental study is to grasp the properties of the corrosion of the reinforcing steel in the concrete used with sea sand. The corrosion of the reinforcing steel was facilitated through the repeated action of drying and wetting at a high temperature. The test results showed that the larger the thickness of covering was the corrosion of the reinforced steel became. The results also showed that the reinforced steel located at the lower vicinity foward the direction of placing concrete showed less damage from the corrosion. For the concrete with chlorides added, water cement ratio did not have an effect upon the corrosion of the reinforced steel. And the effect of using corrosion inhibitor was not clear in this study. The reinforced steel was not corroded above the half cell potential of-250mV, whereas it was corroded below the half cell potential of-300mV.
