A Field Study on the Social Function & Spatial Use of Church in Seoul Metropolitan Area |
| Abstract |
The Purpose of this paper aims to find the current problems of church architecture by examining and analying social function and service of church architecture to the society. This paper also aims to figure out what the urban church should do for the community such as community service and do the relationship with church facility. The results are as follows :Generally, their demands in every income levels are juvenile and childcare facilities. Pastors prefer juvenile unions and libraries, and educational programs for seniors or houswives. Christians and neighbor's responses are the following ; high demand of educational programs in high income level; childcare and senior facilities in low income level. As we can see in special churches, programs to maximize the rate of using the facilities are recommended and the function of community services is to be considered in case of construction stage of new buildings or reconstruction in general churches. Multi-purpose spaces in education halls are held in education halls. Multi-functional plans of spaces in main hall are also recommended to provide cultural activities such as marriage ceremony, funeral, concert, and play etc. |
