Abstract A numerical study was performed to analyze the natural convection heat transfer in the insulation structure consisted of the insulation material and the air cavity within the wall. Finite-volume scheme was employed to numercally solve the set of conservation equations in two regions. Heat transfer results were obtained for an aspect ratio, A, 10<=A<=30 and a dimensionless width of insulation, S, 0<=S<=1. It was founded that a shorter aspect ratio has the effect of increasing heat taransfer. Also the best insulating effect is achieved when S is somewhere between 0.6-0.7.
