Abstract This study is intended to grasp the properties of the corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete on the coastal region. The corrosion of reinforcing steel by the penetration of chlorides into concrete progressed rapidly at the ratio of water to cement of 65 percent, and the corrosion inhibiting effect of the anticorrosive agent appeared only below 55% of the ratio of water to cement. And it was shown that there was no correlation betweenthe decrease rate of the weight of corroded reinforcing steel and the area rate of the corrosion of reinforcing. The half cell potential of reinforcing steel showed to be undr-350mV and there was no correlation between the area rate of the corrosion of the reinforcing steel and the decrease rate of the weight of the corroded reinforcing steel.
