A Chronological Study on the Development of CI/SfB Building Classification System |
Abstract |
Building classification systems are essential to effective communication among all those engaged in the building industry. Nevertheless, no remarkable effort in Korea has been endeavored to research building classification systems up untill late 1980s. However, the importance of the classification system has been being recognized since 1990. Some classification systems have been developed and now being developed both in private and public sectors. Those previously developed are mostly based on the CI/SfB of U.K. or the Masterformat of USA. However, a thorough investigation over these foreign systems in terms of their history of development has been being generally overlooked, which is crucially important to understand the present form of those systems. In this paper, the development of the CI/SfB is chronologically reviewed and the lessons from the review are discussed. |
