Abstract It is generally said that the introduction of western Architecture into Korea was mainly influenced by the Westerner architect offices located in either China or Japan. There wewe many well-known western architcts who worked for the modernization of Korean architectures; Lalande, Savatin, Rothkegel, Victor Poisnel, S.Dixson were some of them. However inorder to understand the modernization process of Korean architecture, Wiliiam M. Vories could be the most important architect to be studied. in fact, he was paticipated in 145 projects between 1914 and 1942, and was the most in terms of the quantity of projects involved. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the activities of Architect's Wiliiam Merrell Vories in Korea. This study also covered the investigation on Mr. Kang Yun Who worked for W.M. Vories since he might be the most important Korean architect influencing on the moderization process. The reach methodology used in this study includes related literature survey and personal interviews with the people who worked with Mr. Kang Yun as who knows about him.
