Abstract This paper describes on the optimum design of low-income apartment house. The procedures of this study have the following steps: (1)A basic unit plan for low-income apartment house is obtained statistically by investigating and analyzing of the existing apartment house. (2)The constraints are frexural stress, shear stree, axial stress, minimum thicknes,s minimum and maximum steel ratios constraints in accordance with requirements for WSD(Working Stress Design) and USD(Ultimate Strength Design). (3)The coefficient equations of the cost function for a unit area are taken as the objective functions. (4)The design variables are effective depths and steel ratios of member sections. Optimization is achieved by GiNO(General Interative Optimizer). (5)In design examples, it was compared with the optimum design results of low-income apartment house and underground parking area for strudtural systems.
