Abstract The essential object of time that Buddhism spread from India into the north-western countries is artistic progress which induced a new phase of evolution with religious progress. In these areas of the former Bactrian kingdom under the influence of western, Persian and Hellenistic art, a new image of the Buddha was created by the so-called Gandharan art. Analogizing in this fact, new types of Buddhist stupa evolved which became decisive for the following centuries. The study of Gandharan stupa types is investigations of the possibility which could find a clue of stupa types in the Far East Asia-from Gandhara(India) to China, Korea and Japan, and it has profound meaning. The patterns and peculiar characters of Gandharan stupa can be found, and we may distinguish several types as followings. 1)Classical Cupola Stupa, 2) Votive Stupa,3) Clay Model&Terracotta Stupa, 4) Relief Stupa on Podium, 5) Relief Stupa on Rock, 6) Circular Terrace Stupa, 7) Square Terrace Stupa, 8) Star Shape Stupa, 9) Cylindrical Stupa(Old Circular Shape Stupa), 10) Niched Stupa, 11) Five-Stupa Group, 12) Tower-Shaped Stupa.
