Efficient Dynamic Analysis of High-Rise Buildings for the Design Automation |
Abstract |
Equivalent static force procedure and response spectrum analysis method are widely used by field engineers for seismic analysis of a multi-story building. Equivalent static force analysis is one of the most simple method in predicting pollibleseismic response of a structure but the analysis results usually are not accurate enough. Elsewhere, response spectrum analysis method gives very accurate values compared to those obtained from the eqivalent static force method. In general, dynamic analysis of the structure combines all of the dynamic responses from each vibration mode through SRSS or CQC method. Thus, all of the analysis results are expressed in absolute values which causes difficulties in combination with the results obtained from the static analysis for structural engineers in deciding design load of each member. Design automation stops at this stage because of the difficulty in decision making. Pseudo-dynamic analysis method proposed in this study provides more accurate seismic analysis results than those of equivalent static force procedure since the dynamic characteristics of a structure is considered. Also proposed method has an advantage in combination of the analysis results due to gravity loads and seismic loads by considering the direction of the forces. Therefore, the design automation of a building structure has been accomplished by introducing the developed pseudo-dynamic analysis method. |
