Abstract This study is to identify the types and motives of residential mobility and also the mobility phenomena according to the family life cycle and the standard of living among the dwellers of apartment projects in Kwangju City.The study findings are summerized as follows:1. The motives of mobility and those of selection for their residents were differently presented as to the family life cycle and the standard of living.For the motives of stability in household management, or decational environment, showed a relatively lower level of importance However, these factors revealed high levels of significance as the motives of habitat selection:2. The types of mobility as presented differed in the family cycle and in the standard of living, and the standard of living seemed quite significant in realizing a residential mobility in quality subsequent to the family life cycle:3. Through examining the residential mobility phenomena at large in apartment projects, it showed that the scale mainly constituted a upward mobility in 41.6%, the floor levels of an apartment building, a horizontal mobility in 47.8%, and the types of owenership, a downward mobility in 45.6%.
