Abstract A purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristices of new town planning of urban space in France. As new town plan in France reflects the social, cultural and urban condition from 1945, it has the complicated aspects. Despite of this, we need to focus our attention on their basic principles : consideration of diversity in the urban planning, unification of dispersed outskirts, activation of existing axis of growh, and harmony between urban area and nature. In regard to this matter, French government carried out the various policies of urban planning: diversification of urban development programme, selection of diverse sites,creation of indepentdent urbanist group composed of all kind of specialists which controls the general concept of urban space, invention of the system albe to make many architects participate effectively in designing various projects. This developement strategy in french new town planning is considered as the new model which would make up for that of England and the scandinvian nations.
