Abstract Interfacial shear transfer characterictics of concrete joints are studied with experimental and analytical methods. Slant shear test specimens with various inclined angles at the mid plane representing the concrete joints are loaded in compression. The concrete strength of the joining materials are varied inaddition to the various size of aggregate in concrete. Test results show that the interfacial shear strength is a function of an angle of inclination of interface, surface roughness and strength of concrete or mortar. An analytical study to derive the relation between the uniaxial compressive stress and the angle of inclination of the interface is carried out. The cohesion and coefficient of friction are found out applying Mohr-Coulomb's slip theory to the interface of the test specimens. The interfacial material properties, cohesion and coefficint of friction at concrete-concrete are found to be higher than those at concrete-mortar.
