A Study on Finite Element Analysis of Stiffened Plates using a Plate/Shell Element |
Abstract |
The finite element method has been developed to investigate the linear and non-linear behavior of stiffened structures lying parallel to the x-axis with its centroid at a given distance from the x-y plane. The eccentricity of neutral plane is considered through the strain matrix of in-plane displacements, and the element stiffness is derived by superimposing its membrane and bending stiffness matrices. An approximate non-linear analysis is achieved by the discrete layered method and the incremental/iterative solution. From the comparision of existing numerical examples and experiments, it is concluded that the suggested element has several advantages over the previous shell and beam element in its simplicity, equation induction and accuracy of the result. |
