Title |
A Study on the Development of Steel Framed Outer Wall Panel |
Abstract |
To develop outer wall panels, three types of module were considered with a basic module of 900x1, 600mm and height of 3,200mm. This panel is composed of two size of channels, enamel coated sheet steel for outside envelope and gypsum board for inside finish. Outdoor environmental tests of these panels were carried out using mockup buildings; one with steel structure and the other conventional concrete structure for comparison. Thermal and sound insulation are two major factors to be considered which affect the performance of actual buildings. It is shown that thermal insulation capability of conventional concrete structure is a little better than that of steel structure finished with testing panels only in southern part whereas the other three parts of two structures show almost the same performance. Also the capability of sound insulation in each structure showed little or no difference. Therefore, the capability of thermal insulation in the southern wall of steel structure needs to be more improved prior to actually applying testing wall panels to the building finish. |
