Abstract A flat plate slab system has been widely used in building construction because of the advantage of its low formingcost and a flat ceiling, which reduce ceiling finishing cost. This research compares construction costs through the sensitivity analysis of major design variables for the flat plate slab system.Structural design consists of several interacting design aspects such as decision making in design criteria, structural analysis, and subsequent member design through the designstages. The cost information is an important factor to be used in decision making during design process. This researchfocusses on the unit cost variations for each element of concrete construction according to changes in structural design variables such as column spacing, slab thickness and column size. The cost elements in concrete construction include formwork, concrete and reinforcing. The results of the cost comparison are plotted on the graphs to be used as a design decision aid during design process.
