Abstract |
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the institutionalized elderly people's behavior of using neighborhood facilities. For this purpose, behavioral relationship between elderly and environment was considered, and many factors which have influence on the elderly's using neighborhood facilities were studied. Based on these theoretical considerations, the result of analyzing the elderly's neighboring pattern are as follows:1)In some facilities like doctor or clinic, their quality was preferable to their proximity, and in some facilities such as markets, their utilization was decided according to thecongruence between their proximity and commodity price. But in utilizing neighborhood facilities, the most important factor was generally shown to be a proximity.2)The most recommendable mode of transportation to improve the mobility of the aged was the vehicles which the insitutions owned and the next one was public transportation.3)Most homes for the aged surveyed were not closely related to their neighborhood and, therefore, the level of social interaction between institutionalized elderly people and their neighborhood dwellers was found to be very low. |
